Reflections.
is a space for thoughtful, creative responses to both television programming and the industry that makes it. Following on from the inaugural print edition in 2023, Reflections will continue year-round to allow a range of voices to contribute to ongoing conversations about the industry and significant cultural discussions about TV programmes.
Paid Subscriptions
are an optional opportunity to support the compensation of our contributors and The TV Foundation, a charity committed to helping people from all backgrounds gain access to, and develop their careers further in, the TV industry. The TV Foundation runs numerous career programmes and fully owns the Edinburgh TV Festival.
Contributors
are invited to produce pieces of reflective writing (with a guide of 1000-2000 words) with additional scope for original formats e.g., illustrations, poems. We are open to longer pieces should the topic and pitch warrant it.
We welcome pitches for all forms of reflection on television. However, as a guide we would be interested in publishing:
ENTHUSIASMS: Cultural appreciations of current TV programming
SOLUTIONS: Responses to the current pressures facing the TV industry
EXPERIENCES: Unique viewpoints and lived stories
The Details
Compensation: As a guide Reflections typically offers £100 per 1,000 published words.
Pitches Should Include:
Pitch (max. 250 words): Please identify your topic, reasons for selecting it, and expected length. Please consider why the proposed piece is original and why you are the person to write it.
A Short Bio (max. 100 words): Please combine the pitch abstract and bio into a single Word attachment to your email.
If you are interested in contributing in a different format, Reflections welcomes pitches along the lines of illustrations, poetry etc. Please be clear in your pitch what you intend to produce, and comparable recent work would be a useful reference point. We are considering pitches on a monthly basis with a rolling deadline of the 15th of each month.
